Installing Tamper-Resistant Receptacles or “TRR’s” in place of traditional outlets is undoubtedly the most effective way of preventing injuries associated with electrical receptacles.
  • The receptacles are spring loaded, therefore, it requires the force of BOTH sides of the plug and/or ground, in order to make contact and create power.
  • Points-of-contact are covered by interior shutters, which cannot be removed like outlet covers that are choking hazards.
  • TRR’s are no more difficult to plug a device into than a regular receptacle,  but they are estimated to save over 2,400 people a year from electrical shock and/or burn.
  • TRR’s only cost an average of $0.50 more per receptacle than the standard outlet, but the safety benefits much out-weigh the costs.
